LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) is a communication protocol designed for low-power wireless networks, allowing long-distance communications between IoT (Internet of Things) devices and gateways. This protocol works primarily in unlicensed frequency bands, such as ISM (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical) bands, and is distinguished by its ability to connect devices several kilometers away with low power consumption.
LoRaWAN networks consist of sensors or devices, gateways, a network server, and applications. Sensors send data to gateways, which act as bridges between devices and the centralized network server. This data is then processed and transmitted to the final applications.
Basic Station is an open protocol for communication between LoRaWAN gateways and network servers. Developed by Semtech, it aims to standardize and simplify the interactions between these components.
Many gateway manufacturers have adopted the Basic Station standard to ensure smooth interoperability with various LoRaWAN network servers. Among them, we find:
- Kerlink: A leader in the field of IoT connectivity solutions, Kerlink offers a range of LoRaWAN gateways, several of which support the Basic Station protocol to facilitate integration into various network environments.
- Milesight: Known for its advanced IoT solutions, Milesight also offers gateways compatible with Basic Station, offering greater flexibility and security for IoT deployments.
- Multitech: A recognized manufacturer of communication equipment, Multitech offers LoRaWAN gateways with Basic Station support, allowing simplified and secure management.
- Tektelic: With a diverse portfolio of LoRaWAN gateways, Tektelic has also integrated Basic Station support to meet the needs of complex IoT networks.
We have integrated an auto-provisioning system into our Device Explorer solution that allows LoRaWAN gateways to be automatically added to our platform. This feature reduces the time and effort required to set up and manage gateways in an IoT network.
Currently, our auto-provisioning system supports gateways from the following manufacturers:
- Kerlink: Kerlink gateways compatible with Basic Station are automatically detected and configured in Device Explorer, simplifying the deployment and management process.
- Milesight: Milesight gateways that support Basic Station are also compatible with our auto-provisioning system, allowing for quick and effortless integration.
When a compatible gateway is on and connected to your network, it automatically reports to Device Explorer using the Basic Station protocol. Device Explorer then registers it, makes the necessary configuration, and immediately starts receiving the data transmitted by the gateway. This process ensures that even large-scale deployments can be managed effectively without requiring manual intervention on each gateway.
To automatically add gateways, go to the gateways page and click Add.
